Who gets their hands on the ball nearly as much as the guy under center? You guessed it, the halfback position. So, we thought it would be a good idea to catch up with some of the halfbacks of the league and find out what they’d been up to in between their appearances on the field.
Baltimore Ravens’ Avery Jordan
When we last saw the former Florida Gator, he was doing all he could to try and guide the team to the playoffs for the very first time in their CFSL history, which he was unfortunately unable to do. Jordan originally began his career as a member with the Iowa Hawkeyes, staying through his sophomore season before Iowa was removed and Florida took it’s place, to which Jordan went and finished his career. Jordan ran for over 1,000 yards in his first two seasons and had at least 10 rushing touchdowns through his junior season. Jordan, now 26, is coming out of coaching high school, where he began as an offensive assistant before becoming the offensive coordinator position at his alma mater. Avery Jordan had been considering a head coaching job at the high school level before the announcement of the draft.
Philadelphia Eagles’ Robert Davis
With Avery Jordan out in Baltimore, let us turn our attention to another former SEC tailback in Robert Davis, who began his CFSL career with Penn State before transferring to Auburn, winning a National Championship with the Tigers as a junior. The former All-American tallied up 4,500 rushing yards by the end of his CFSL career, scoring 41 rushing touchdowns in his four seasons. The 26-year old tailback spent his time between football action, working on his family farm, bass fishing in the warmer summer months and then going catfishing in the winter seasons before returning to the football field.
New York Jets’ Dowdy Dowell
The former Nebraska tailback entered into the CFSL in the hopes of rivaling Vidar Lund, the former Seminole. Dowell left Nebraska after his sophomore season, taking a coaching position at Stephenville High School in Hico, Texas, his alma mater. Dowell also went to work on his parents’ farm, slinging hay about. When we last saw the former Cornhusker, Dowdy Dowell had compiled 1,039 rushing yards in his senior season, racking up eight rushing touchdowns. Now, at the age of 25, Dowell is eager to line up beside the CFSL legend that is Ray Tatum.
